What Cancer is All About

Living a healthy life is very important. It is necessary that each one of us start living a healthy life. Living healthy means eating healthy foods that consist more of fish, fruits and vegetables. Accompanied with proper diet are regular exercise, drinking at least eight glasses of water per day and having enough rest and sleep. All these may seem too difficult to start with, but if you will not take enough effort to do these, then you will suffer the consequences in the end. Diet high in fat, living a sedentary life, and engaging into vices will lead to heart problems and cancer. Due to this fast-paced world, everything is instant. Almost everything around us is prepared instantly including the food that we eat. These foods are high in fat and since these are prepared commercially, carcinogenic substances are present in these foods.

Cancer happens when there is a continuous reproduction of abnormal cells that does not stop. Cancer cells divide faster compared to normal cells in the body. Because of this, cancer cells invade tissues easily and it becomes very difficult to stop or control them. Even if there are abnormalities, cancer cells continue to reproduce, thus leads to disease formation causing tumors to be formed and spread easily in the body.

All About Cancer Cells

Just like all the other cells in the body, cancer cells also need nutrition. When nutrients enter the body, cancer cells take in most of the nutrients, thus hastening their reproduction. When these cells invade a certain part or organ of the body, the normal processes in the body stop.

Cancer cells secrete a growth factor known as angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the one responsible for supplying blood vessels to these cancer cells. Blood supply for cancer cells are provided for by these blood vessels. The blood that cancer cells receive are rich in nutrients, thus enables the cells to reproduce and grow continuously. The process wherein cancer cells divide continuously and invade a certain area is called metastasis.

Causes of Cancer

Cancer is caused by several factors. Some of the causes of cancer include smoking, genetic mutation, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), consistent exposure to radiation and other chemicals. Stress is also one of the causes of cancer. Due to all these, it is important to live a healthy lifestyle that includes proper diet and regular exercise. Reducing your exposure to stress can also help in the prevention of cancer. Stress makes a person weak, thus he or she is more prone to sickness. Having enough rest and sleep can help reduce your risk of getting sick. Enough sleep means getting six to eight hours of sleep per day. It is also important to avoid engaging into vices like smoking and drinking. Smoking and drinking will do you no good.

Genetics also play an important role in acquiring cancer. Most people who have cancer have a family history of the condition.
